1. List up to five people you admire, and after each of their names, note why you see them as so creatively potent.
I admire people like Der Alte Fritz or Phil Olley, who seem to garner such enjoyment from a single time period and game. That is what I seem to really admire–focus. The ability to accomplish things. That, and generally seeming to enjoy what you are doing.
2. When do you recall experiencing flow while growing up? Were there times when you remember a parent or teacher calling you “back to earth” because you were so engaged in that activity?
I spent a lot of time just hanging out in the back yard throwing a ball against the house. Later I realized I was emulating Steve McQueen in the Impossible Escape. But I spent the time dreaming about various stories. I do that sometimes now, mostly right before I go to sleep.
3. Make a list of the activities or projects where you have recently experienced flow. Make column headings “location, “solo or with whom,” “food/drink/water/rest,” and “other.”
